VILLALOBOS ACOSTA, MARIA CONSTANZA
The third volume focuses on the most outstanding works of this superb collection of canvas paintings from the colonial period, which either arrived or were produced locally to decorate the temple from its construction in 1610 until the expulsion of the Jesuits in the second half of the 18th century. Includes art works from Europe as well as those painted in the viceroyalty of the Nueva Granada. The images were created for the propagation of the faith, include valuable series on the Apostles or the life of the Virgin; thematic paintings and saints of the Society of Jesus; sets of portraits of Church Fathers and founders or reformers of orders; devotional paintings; works that came as a result of the circulation of art at a global level and a separate chapter dedicated to noted colonial artist Gregorio Vásquez de Arce y Ceballos. The selection of works and texts - which delve into the theme of both Neo-Granada and European Baroque painting - belong to the historian, restorer, and teacher María Constanza Villalobos and are illustrated with images by the photographer and visual artist Andrés Mauricio López.
