Domestic Paradise
Intimate and Innovative Architecture from China to Chile
Designing private residences presents very special challenges and nuances for the architect. The work may be on a more modest scale than public projects, and the technical adjustments may not be as complex as those of an industrial enclave, but individual preferences, requirements, and tastes become a priority. It is the delicate task of translating all the emotional associations and practical needs of "home" into a well-built and practical reality.
This edition brings together 100 of the most interesting and innovative houses of the last decade, designed by a legion of budding and established talents such as John Pawson, Richard Meier, Shigeru Ban, Tadao Ando, ??Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, Daniel Libeskind, Alvaro Siza, and Peter Zumthor. It is an example of architecture at its most elemental and intimate level, taking into account daily routines such as eating, sleeping, and shelter, while also providing space for social relationships and personal experiences.
